For the first time in Albania, the number of cars exceeds 1 million in 2025

In Albania, at the end of 2025, over 1 million road vehicles were circulating in the country, marking a historical record. Of these, 847 thousand were cars.

According to INSTAT data, in the fourth quarter of 2025, the number of road vehicles in circulation in the territory of Albania was 1,048,092. Among them, cars constitute 80.8% of the total vehicles, followed by motorcycles with 6.1% and mixed transport vehicles with 5.8%.

Tirana accounts for the largest share with 34.7% of total assets, followed by Durrës with 13.6%.

Meanwhile, Gjirokastra and Kukës have the lowest number of vehicles, with 2.1% and 2.4%, respectively.

During this quarter, 24,854 vehicles were registered for the first time, of which 81.2% were cars. Once again, the Tirana region leads with 40.3% of new registrations.

Changes compared to the same quarter of 2024:

-The total number of vehicles has increased by 9.3%.
-New registrations have increased by 8.5%.

According to INSTAT, in vehicles registered for the first time, Volkswagen holds first place with 18.6%, followed by Mercedes Benz with 17.5%.

In Albania, the number of vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants has increased to 358, from less than 200 a few years ago.

However, this level remains below the European average of 550 cars per 1,000 inhabitants according to Eurostat and among the lowest in Europe, surpassed only by Turkey and North Macedonia./Monitor
