The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew, has sent a letter of congratulations to the Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës and All Albania, His Eminence Ioannis, on the occasion of his name day.

In the letter, His Holiness emphasizes his high regard for the Archbishop in his duty at the head of the Orthodox Church.

Bartholomew wishes the Archbishop that Jesus Christ will strengthen him in his high and responsible ecclesiastical service for the good of the people of God, which has been entrusted to him from on high.

Full Letter:

Your Beatitude and Most Holy Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës and All Albania, my dear and beloved brother and fellow priest in Christ the God, Mr. Joan, embracing you fraternally in Christ, Your Honorable Beatitude, who are very dear to us, we greet you warmly from the heart.

We praise and glorify the Lord of glory, who bestowed upon His Holy Church your venerable Beatitude, and upon us a dear brother and fellow priest, and we are communicating with you to express to you the congratulations of the Holy and Great Church of Christ on the occasion of the feast of your Name, as well as our own personal congratulations.

Feasts in the Orthodox tradition are occasions to praise the Triune God for His indescribable gifts to the world and to each of us. We are doing this today as well, sharing this joy with our brothers and sisters and drawing from the indescribable divine love for humanity inspiration and strength to serve, to bear fruit and good works, always keeping our eyes on Him who is the author and finisher of our faith, crying out with thanksgiving: “What do you have that you did not receive from Him?” and: “Glory to God for everything!”

We beseech the Lord, our God and Savior Jesus Christ to strengthen you, Most Beatitude, in your high and responsible ecclesiastical service for the good of the people of God, entrusted to you from on high, of Orthodoxy and the whole world, so that through you His heavenly Name may be glorified, and we wish you complete health and every blessing; we embrace you and preserve for you special reverence and deep love in Christ.
