The legal representative of the DP, Ivi Kaso, spoke about the changes in the Electoral Code approved the day before in the Laws Commission.

Kaso emphasized that the main cause of the opposition was the vote of immigrants, and thanks to the proposal made by PD, Albanians living abroad have the opportunity to vote.

"The opposition has engaged in an exercise in the conditions when the electoral reform in all its important components failed and failed because of a very clear will of the majority personally of Edi Rama who refused even in the mechanism established by consensus which was the group of dialogue to discuss issues that are important not only for the opposition but for the Albanians as to how they would be addressed in the next elections, then the only obligation that arose for the Assembly and the opposition was to do what was possible so that the two decisions of the Court Constitutionalists to get the best possible legal translation.

The first was an opposition cause strongly raised since at least 2016 regarding the diaspora vote, and fortunately it was opposition insistence that produced a mechanism that was translated into law and will guarantee all Albanian citizens with permanent residence abroad, but also for those who for reasons of work, study, military or diplomatic service, health reasons, etc. are in a certain period abroad that coincides with the election period, to vote without the artificial obstacles presented by the SP draft, which was only a form to pretend that the obligation stemming from the CJK was fulfilled and on the other hand to allow a group to vote very small number of Albanians registered according to the predictions that the law made by Edi Rama and the Ministry of the Interior had decided to register.

We opened this spectrum and extended it to all Albanians by choosing the principle that all Albanian citizens who live or for a certain period of time are abroad have the same rights as Albanian citizens, which is not getting the attention it deserves, a great victory of the opposition and the Albanian citizens.
