The tree lights are lit in 'Skënderbej' square

The moment the lights come on

Tirana is officially on holiday. Already turned into a tradition, the 'Skënderbej' square is illuminated by hundreds of Christmas and New Year's lights. 

This year the lights are lit on December 5.

The ceremony started with festive songs where many children performed on stage.

Then the mayor of Tirana gave his speech where he asked the citizens to keep the days of the spirit alive and contribute to the community.

"In addition to turning on the light of the tree, let's also turn on the light that each one of us has inside. Every time we wake up in the morning we ask ourselves will we do good things for the city. Let's keep this light on today for the whole year. If you have more sweets help someone in need. It is important that these holidays have endless love," said Veliaj./ CNA
