Such is the story told to the BBC by Tayeb ait Ighenbaz, who was forced to choose whether to save his 11-year-old son or his parents when they were trapped under the rubble after the earthquake in Morocco.

Tayeb was with his wife, two children and his parents on Friday night in their small stone house when it was hit by the country's biggest earthquake in 60 years.

It shows the moments when the earthquake struck.

"Everything happened so fast. When the earthquake happened, we all ran to the door. My father was sleeping and I shouted to my mother to come, but she stayed back to wait for him," he recalled .

He could only go out with his wife and daughter.

While returning to the building where much rubble had already fallen, Tayeb found his son and his parents trapped under the rubble. He could see his son's hand. But he knew that on the other side were his parents whom he had to save.

Tayeb had to act quickly and headed towards his son Adam, digging desperately through the rubble to pull him out.

After saving the boy, he turned to his parents who were trapped under a large stone slab, but as he himself says, it was too late.

"I had to choose between my parents and my son" , he says with tears in his eyes.

"I couldn't help my parents because the wall fell on half of their bodies. It's very sad. I saw my parents die."

The family now lives with relatives in makeshift tents near their former home. Tayeb, who worked as a shepherd, says all his money was at home and most of his goats were killed.

"It's like being born again into a new life. No parents, no home, no food, no clothes," he says./ CNA
