GJKKO has sentenced the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, to two years in prison.

Pandeli Kokaveshi was sentenced to 3 years probation.

SPAK had demanded 2.6 years in prison for Fredi Beleri for the charge of vote buying.

Beleri was arrested two days before the May 14 elections.

For a long time, this issue has become the main topic of discussion in the relations between Greece and Albania.

Greece has asked Albania many times to withdraw from the decision on Beleri, as this will affect the relations between the two neighboring countries. 

Official Athens has often sent its representatives to court hearings who have reiterated their position that Fredi Beleri be released and that the rights of the minority are not violated./ CNA
