Investigations for Veliaj/Klodiana Lala closed: Many associates and family

Journalist Klodiana Lala has shared today more details from the investigations into the arrested mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj.

In a television show, Lala revealed that at the end of the investigation, it turns out that many other individuals are also involved in the case, identified as family members and associates of the mayor's wife, Ajola Xoxa.

Lala emphasized that out of the file with 30 defendants and 12 companies, Veliaj has the highest number of charges, with 13 of them.

"The investigation into Veliaj and the other persons has been completed and is being conducted by Judge Etleva Deda, who has been exercising the function of judge since the Serious Crimes Division was established. Veliaj is seeking a mitigation of the measure because the investigation has been closed, because he does not intimidate witnesses and because he has no political power."

There are 30 defendants, individuals and 12 companies. The highest number is Mr. Veliaj, there are 13 charges against him. The added charge is that of "abuse of office" that Mr. Veliaj has given for a multi-story building in which Ajola Xoxa has interests. There are many associates and family members of Ms. Xoxa who have been named as defendants. In addition to the businessmen, former MP Klotilda Bushka was also added.

According to SPAK, the Xoxa-Veliaj couple benefited from the money, Veliaj circulated funds on behalf of Xoxa's companies and NGO. Xoxa's companies and Elman Abule's "Rametal" were used to launder the proceeds of the crime. Prosecutors allege that the Xoxa-Veliaj couple circulated a lot of cash.

"Veliaj has objected to this through his lawyers, saying there is no evidence against him, he was raped while being escorted to the hospital, he was not allowed to meet foreign lawyers, etc.," said Lala./CNA
