Technical control of vehicles, 31% remained in testing during 2024, four reasons

At least 31% of vehicles that have undergone technical control during the past year have remained in testing.

The official data of the Directorate of Road Transport Service for the period January-December show that mainly this has come for visual and functional reasons, but a not small percentage also because they have not met the restrictions related to the discharge of gases.

DPSHTRR announced that in total, during the January-December period, 428,139 vehicles were tested, or +8.2% compared to January-December 2022.

At least 84.1% of the vehicles tested are vehicles (4+1 – 8+1 seats). The means are mainly concentrated in Tirana, where according to the data, 35.4% of the tests were carried out by the regional directorate of the capital.

Dwelling in more detail on the reasons for not passing the test, it turns out that in 46% of cases there were visual and functional deficiencies, 27% remained as an effect of the exhaust system and 14% as an effect of the steering system.

The fourth reason has to do with the braking system, where at least 13% of the total number of crashes are related to this issue.

DPSHTT has underlined that at least 28.5% of the total assets were retested during the past year.

As for the age of vehicles, DPSHTRR in its summary estimates that at least 7,949 vehicles with an average age of 22 years have been permanently deregistered, or +38.3% compared to January-December 2023.

Technical control is currently carried out by the General Directorate of the Road Transport Service through special points that each of its regional directorates has.

The technical control is currently performed every two years for 4+1 vehicles, it is 2200 ALL, while retesting is 900 ALL./ Monitor Magazine
