The Special Court has requested to requalify the charges against Ilir Beqaj, Klodjan Rjepaj and Ilir Rrapaj regarding the "Sterilization" file.

The jury has demanded that Beqaj, Rrjepaj and Rrapaj be accused of "theft by abuse of office" and "structured criminal group".

Earlier, SPAK raised the criminal charge of "abuse of duty" against the former minister Beqaj regarding the procedures for awarding the concession worth 100 million euros in 2015.

As for Rrapaj and Rrjepaj, he raised the charge of "falsification of documents", "fraud" and "abuse of duty".

The prosecutor's office said in this Monday's session that it agrees to file charges as suggested by the court, despite the fact that it thinks that the charges filed by SPAK were fair.

On March 30, SPAK closed the investigations for the "Sterilization" concession file and sent to court the file against 9 persons charged, among them the former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj.

The investigations showed that the former minister did not avoid the conflict of interest with the businessman Ilir Rrapaj, the winner of the concession worth 100 million euros, and did not request a detailed study on the needs of sterilization in order to choose a less expensive option.

Under these conditions, SPAK has also charged Ilir Rrapaj as a shareholder of the company and the former Deputy Minister of Health at that time, Klodian Rjepaj, who have been in prison since August 2023./ CNA
