National security threats/ The government's move is revealed

At the meeting of the Council of Ministers today, the new National Security Strategy was approved, drawn up by an inter-institutional working group under the direction of the MEPJ.

The strategy aims to reflect, in the most comprehensive way, the main challenges and threats to the National Security of our country, as well as the institutional responses to them in the 2023-2028 timeframe.

This important strategic document follows that of 2014, which, due to the geopolitical developments of recent years, no longer responds to the security challenges that our country currently faces.

The fundamental feature of the document approved today is the clear reflection of the international political affiliation of our country, as a member of NATO and a candidate for the EU, as well as the clear orientation towards action in accordance with the analysis made of the strategic environment of security, at the global, regional and national level.

This approach is reflected in the establishment of 19 "Strategic Requirements", which will guide the activity of the state institutions of the Republic of Albania, while the implementation of these requirements is of fundamental importance to determine the institutional responses of the Republic of Albania to threats to the security of its national level at all three levels and in the 2023-2028 timeframe.

The drafting of the new document was done taking into consideration the influence of factors that reflect the evolving nature of security threats today.

Naturally, the National Security Strategy reflects the dynamic international developments which are mainly related to the multidimensional effects of Russia's aggression against Ukraine and the fact that the current international security situation has created an accumulation of challenges and threats which extend from the classical dimension of the re-actualization of military defense , terrorism, the violation of democracy on a global scale, the harmful use of emerging technologies, food security, and the effects of climate change.

As such, these multidimensional threats bring with them a high unpredictability as well as objective difficulties for their effective coping at a purely national level.

The drafting of the strategy was based on an inter-institutional, active and comprehensive cooperation process, and had the contribution of our strategic partner.

During this process, all the constituent elements of RSH's security have been analyzed in detail. In this important process, the dimension of the comparative advantages of the RSH, its institutional weaknesses, the opportunities offered to the country by the current strategic environment and the risks that threaten it have been taken into account, placing them in a ten-year projection, how much is expected to be the longevity of the strategy itself.

With the final approval of the new National Security Strategy document, our country has a contemporary strategic document which will serve to define the institutional responses of the Republic of Albania to threats to its national security at the global, regional and national levels, in the time frame 2023-2028.
