Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross/His Glory, John: A Feast for All

Today, all Orthodox believers celebrate the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross.

On the day of this feast, His Beatitude, Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës and all Albania, Joan, delivered his sermon at the "Resurrection of Christ" Cathedral.

His Beatitude gave messages to the faithful, saying that this celebration transcends time. The Cross of the Lord is what brought salvation, said Archbishop Joan.

Further, His Beatitude said that suffering is not always punishment, often suffering has led people towards meditation and healing.

God, His Beatitude said, often allows things to happen in our lives to focus on what truly matters.

 

 

“ Today’s feast is a central feast in the Orthodox Church, it is the Exaltation of the Cross. Today’s feast has two dimensions, the historical dimension, we remember the finding of the Cross of Christ. When Christianity was given freedom by Emperor Constantine, he commissioned his mother Saint Helena to find the Cross of Christ in Jerusalem. Everything that has to do with God transcends history, it is done for each of us. The Feast of the Cross is a feast for all Christians in all centuries. Because the Cross of the Lord is what brought our salvation. People see suffering as punishment, but not all suffering is punishment. Often it is healing, people from great suffering have immersed themselves in meditation, have thought more deeply about their lives. God allows certain things to happen to us in our lives to shake us and to focus on what is most important and not to waste our whole lives on useless things, which one day we will leave behind. The true cross is when we crucify "Our passions, every evil thought and every covetous thought, everything else that is present in our lives. Only the cross of Christ can save ," said His Beatitude.
