The "Beleri" issue/ Greek media: Greece does not agree with

Greece's position that it will not accept Albania's EU membership process if there is no progress in the case of the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, has been repeated by diplomatic sources from Brussels.

The same sources emphasized that Greece's position is clear and has been explained to the Albanian side. Greece agreed to send the EU's letter to Tirana for the first step of starting negotiations, provided that in the next phase of the process there is a clear movement in the direction of restoring the political will of the electoral body of Himara.

It is not a matter of independence of the judiciary, but a purely political-administrative decision, the same diplomatic agents emphasized, adding that the Greek side does not seek a judicial decision and does not intervene, but what it asks is that the elected mayor of Himara be given permission to take the oath and be able to exercise his political rights.

The Greek media Kathimerini writes that today in the Council of General Affairs of the EU, which prepares the issues of the Summit of December 14 and 15, which includes the enlargement of the EU, the accession process of the Balkan countries will also be discussed Western. The possibility of disconnecting the accession process of Albania from that of North Macedonia still remains open.

According to the draft conclusions of the Summit, the European leaders will reaffirm their full and unquestionable commitment to the perspective of the Western Balkans' membership in the EU and they will seek to accelerate their membership process.

According to this plan, negotiations with Bosnia-Herzegovina will begin once the criteria are sufficiently met. We remind you that a day ago, the Special Court of Tirana rejected Fredi Beleri's request for him to be sworn in as mayor of Himara Municipality./ CNA
