Actions against deforestation/ 3 vehicles seized in Pogradec

The Municipality of Pogradec is committed to stopping illegal logging and cracking down on those who damage forests in the Mokra and Gora areas for profit. Recently, this institution has reorganized its work by creating the Territory Protection Agency, where a special focus has been placed on preventing deforestation.

According to Markel Hafesllari, head of this agency, only at the beginning of this year, three vehicles with illegally cut timber were stopped and seized, as well as a considerable amount of waste wood.

Hafesllari indicates that self-control checks will be daily, mainly on the roads that are most frequented by smugglers, and he also appeals to residents of the areas to report any vehicles or findings of deforestation.

Kledi Lufo, a forestry engineer who recently took charge of the forest sector in Pogradec, said that he is fully committed to protecting forests and preventing them from being cut down by people who destroy everything for profit. Lufo said that cooperation with the state police will continue in each case.

"With the establishment of the territory control agency in the Municipality of Pogradec, we have taken all measures to prevent illegal logging. Specifically, we have focused on the mountainous part of the area. During this period since the establishment of the agency, we have stopped 3 vehicles and seized about 130 cubic meters of timber and have prevented several illegal loggings. We will continue to conduct continuous checks in the mountainous areas of Pogradec. In each administrative unit we have our inspectors and together we constantly carry out checks even at night to prevent all vehicles circulating during the late hours of the night. We will be constantly in checks and here I find the opportunity to ask citizens to report to us for any case, for any illegal vehicle or logging that we find and we will be there," - concludes the Director of the Territory Protection Agency in the Municipality of Pogradec, Markel Hafesllari./CNA
