Today, August 2, 2025, marks the 33rd anniversary of the Enthronement of Archbishop Anastasios. Archbishop Anastasios is remembered as the man sent by God who rebuilt the Orthodox Autocephalous Church of Albania from the ruins.

From the day of the Enthronement, August 2, 1992, until eternity, the Legacy of a consecrated Hierarch is remembered.

On August 2, 1992, on a warm summer day, at the Cathedral of the Annunciation in Tirana, thousands of Orthodox believers witnessed with hope and tears of joy a historic event: the Enthronement of His Beatitude, Anastasios Janullatos, as Archbishop of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania.

After decades of terrible communist persecution and institutional denial of religion, this day marked the revival of the Orthodox Church in Albania.

Today, August 2, 2025, in silence, but with deep reverence and eternal gratitude, His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios is remembered, who has already departed from this world, but has entered eternity with his face turned towards the Lord Christ and the people he loved so much.

With his life, dedication, and unconditional love, he built not only temples for the worship of God, but also souls enlightened by faith, love, and peace.

From the day of his Enthronement until his last breath, His Beatitude remained the Father of all, the shepherd who never abandoned his flock in the storms of transition, poverty and uncertainty. He wisely and patiently led the complete spiritual, administrative and constructional renewal of the Church, building from the foundations dozens of churches, monasteries, schools and social centers, but above all reviving hope and faith in God.

Through his work and mission, he became a symbol of reconciliation and unity, not only for the Orthodox community, but for the entire Albanian people. Indeed, his figure transcended religious boundaries to become a respected national figure and a powerful voice of peace, dialogue, and moral conscience in the Balkans.

Archbishop Anastasius showed that faith is action, love is service, and hope is the path to resurrection. His legacy is alive in every corner of Albania where a church, a youth camp, a medical clinic, an orphanage, a shelter for the poor, a school breathes life that keeps alive the spirit of love and service that he conveyed until the end. /CNA
