Artificial Intelligence in aquaponics, opportunities and challenges in Albania

Food production systems that combine aquaculture and hydroponics, or known as aquaponics, have found application on an experimental or small scale in our country. But it appears that, as in the world, the potential for wider and more profitable implementation exists.

Precisely the opportunities, challenges and benefits that come from the integration of Artificial Intelligence in these enterprises will be part of a special activity that will be organized in the country which deals with the issue in a regional context.

"The purpose of this activity is to examine the political challenges, which the authorities of the governments at the national and regional level, face during the development of aquaponics, which take on a special meaning in the common territorial agendas.

Moreover, this event will be open to policy makers, technical experts, the private sector and non-profit organizations (NPOs) from the countries of the South-East Adriatic, such as Albania and Montenegro" underlined the Albanian Center for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development. which is part of this initiative and its representative for Albania.

According to her, this workshop  will inform the participants about  the state-of-the-art and trends in aquaponics, encouraging mutual learning through making public the best practices and experiences in the management and development of aquaponics, without forgetting the cross-sectoral aspects.

More specifically, regarding Albania and Montenegro, this workshop will be an opportunity to identify key areas in improving the business environment for aquaponins - including private sector and NGO perspectives, while attention is placed on understanding the opportunities and challenges of the countries where aquaponics is applied, related to the political coherence for the relevant development. Emphasis will also be placed on innovative solutions for the sustainable development of aquaculture in the Southeast Adriatic countries.

The activity is based on the experience of five organizations operating in Puglia, Molise, Albania and Montenegro: Dhitech Technological District, LUM University "Giuseppe Degennaro", Professional Fishing Union "Molise Costiero", Albanian Center for Environmental Protection and Development Sustainable, together with the Diocese of Budimlje and Nikši? of the Serbian Orthodox Church, in Albania that come with the project I-AM_Smart Aquaponics (Supporting Italy, Albania and Montenegro's Smart Aquaponics initiatives), which aims to provide appropriate strategies, specific methodologies and technological solutions in exploiting regional and national opportunities, enabling small and medium-sized aquaponics enterprises to reach their desired potential./ Monitor.al
