Important rating, Yamal is selected as the best

Barcelona winger and EURO 2024 champion Lamine Yamal has been officially announced as the winner of the "Golden Boy" award for 2024.

The award is given to the best player in Europe under the age of 21 and is presented annually by Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport.

His triumph comes after a spectacular year for club and country, culminating in a EURO 2024 triumph with Spain in the summer. The striker celebrated his 17th birthday in the middle of the tournament.

Yamal topped the 25-man shortlist that included the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, Kenan Yildiz, Samuel Mbangula, Endrick and Arda Güler.

Yamal becomes the third Barcelona player to win the award over the past four seasons following Pedri and Gavi's successes in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham was the most recent winner.
