UEFA is "scared" of the elections in Turkey, Istanbul risks the big

With the governmental elections in Turkey very close, UEFA has started discussions with the Portuguese Football Federation to move the big final of the UEFA Champions League, from Istanbul, to Lisbon, at least this is reported by the prestigious British "Daily Mail".

According to the latter reports, UEFA is afraid of the possible unrest that could grip Turkey due to the presidential elections on May 14, the second round of which is expected to be on May 28 and the Champions League final, just 2 weeks later. on June 10.

UEFA has so far postponed the Champions League finals twice, from Istanbul. Earlier in 2020, Europe's highest football governing body decided that all matches from the quarter-final stage to the grand final would be played in Lisbon, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A year later, UEFA again moved the Champions League final, between Manchester City and Chelsea, from Istanbul to Porto, as Turkey was on the "black list" of countries where the British could travel, again due to the pandemic.

However, this time the pandemic does not affect. UEFA began to have the first concerns after the seismic tremors in the Gaziantep region at the beginning of February and now the fear of possible clashes due to the presidential elections.

However, Turkey is not the only country that could miss out on a football final, with the Hellenic Football Association looking for another venue to host the Greek Cup final between AEK Athens and PAOK, which was initially thought to be would be held in Albania and then the option of Poland came up, but so far the Greek Federation has not made any decision on determining the host country.
