Sport in mourning/ Teodor Vaso, icon of Albanian football, dies

Teodor Vaso, the icon of Albanian football, has passed away at the age of 82.

It is learned that he died this morning.

The pride of Korça got involved in sports at the age of 16, when he became part of the training with the adults of the Dinamo team.

He is recognized as one of the 5 best athletes of 1968 in the composition of the Albanian national football team for the extraordinary result in the 0-0 draw with the world champion, the German RF.

In 1967, Vaso was named among the 11 best of Albanian football, in the 55th anniversary of our football.

He was also named the footballer of the century in Korça in 1998.

This same year, he was awarded the gold medal for outstanding merit by the Ministry of Education and Sports in 1998.

The Municipal Council of Korça, by its decision, granted the "GOLD EMBLEM OF THE CITY".

Vaso has played 46 international matches, 20 of them with the National Team, as the player with the most matches among Kor?i? footballers.

During his football career, he has scored 26 goals while playing a defensive role.
