President Duka: Euro U-17, a success for Albania and an important step towards

The President of the Football Federation, Armand Duka, in an interview for the show "Opinion" on TV Klan, spoke about the organization of the U-17 European Championship that is taking place in Albania. He said that the idea to bring this important sporting event started thanks to the large investments in sports infrastructure and the experience created by the FSHF in organizing international activities.

President Duka also praised the close cooperation with UEFA and the contribution of Albanian volunteers, who have been key to the success of this activity.

The head of the Albanian football government described Euro U-17 as an important test for the future and an excellent opportunity to promote Albania in the international arena.

Below, President Duka's full interview for Opinion:

Euro U-17 in Albania, how did the idea start? – Looking at the developments, the changes in infrastructure, the organizational experience, we thought why not apply for a final tournament of the European U-17 Championship. Considering the experience of the AFF administration, we applied for this final tournament, which is very important for us. One of the most important competitions that UEFA organizes in Europe. Since the application, since the competition to win the organization of the European and then the preparation is an extremely big job, undoubtedly led by the UEFA administration, but supported by an army of AFF people, but also of Albanian volunteers who have supported the activity, which continues now.

Was Albania ready in terms of infrastructure? – We, with all our financial contribution, have changed the infrastructure to 10 training fields. It was a criterion for all teams that come, that there must be one training field available. There are two more reserves, in case bad weather or other things can happen. We have intervened in the improvement of ten training fields. We have intervened in the improvement of the four stadiums where the European Championship takes place. Less in the “National Arena”, because it is a new and complete stadium. But more in Rrogozhina, which we almost started and built from scratch. A stadium with a capacity of 4500 seats, but which offers fantastic conditions. I followed Italy with England in that stadium and I was really pleased. I was also talking to the Mayor of Rrogozhina, to whom I said; in three years you will see one of these in the big European teams and you will say that this footballer played in Rrogozhina. It's really nice when one or more of the future stars of European football play in a modest town like Rrogozhina. That's one of the beautiful things about this European Championship.

Si është koordinuar stafi i FSHF me stafin e UEFA-s që ky event të jetë i suksesshëm? – Është një armatë aq e madhe, pas 22 vetave që luajnë në fushë, sa nuk mund ta imagjinosh. Stafi i FSHF tashmë është një staf profesional. Është një staf që e bën shumë mirë këtë punë dhe vlerësimet nga specialistët dhe ekspertët ndërkombëtarë të UEFA-s janë me notat maksimale.

A e konsideron këtë turne si një test të rëndësishëm për Shqipërinë për të organizuar më tej turne të tjerë të këtij niveli? – E konsideroj si një event shumë të bukur për Shqipërinë. Si një event që i shërben futbollit shqiptar. Më mirë se në të gjitha Kampionatet Europiane të U-17, praninë e të rinjve në stadiume dhe kjo i shërben zhvillimit të futbollit shqiptar. Rinia nuk mund të edukohet vetëm me fjalë. Por, edukohet edhe me vepra. Ata duke parë këto ndeshje, këta yje që luajnë në qytetet e tyre, padyshim që do u lindë dëshira. Sikur edhe 20% t’u lindë dëshira nga ky aktivitet, për ne është sukses i madh dhe benefiti më i madh. Padyshim është një test, sepse dihet që ne kemi një event akoma më madhor dhe më të rëndësishëm, që është Kampionati Europian U-21 2027. Është më i vështirë, ka kërkesa akoma më të mëdha. Por, jam i bindur që me eksperiencën që po krijojmë, stafi i FSHF-së që dua ta falënderoj për punën shumë të mirë që ka bërë në vazhdimësi dhe ekspertizën e mirë që ofron. Dua të falënderoj edhe të gjithë vullnetarët që i janë bashkuar këtij aktiviteti. Është risi mbase në jetën shqiptare që vullnetarët mbështesin aktivitete me ndikim shoqëror – social, apo sportiv. Po vijmë drejt fundit të Europianit U-17 dhe unë uroj të kemi spektakël në Arenën Kombëtare. Shpresoj që stadiumi të jetë i mbushur plot dhe të jetë një event që të lërë shenjë në historinë e Shqipërisë.

A mendon se ky event e vendos Shqipërinë në qendër të vëmendjes? – Çdo gjë që bëhet, çdo aktivitet, padyshim që është një lajm pozitiv për Shqipërinë. Është një promovim pozitiv për vendin tonë. Ky event kontribuon në promovimin pozitiv të Shqipërisë.

Më 1 qershor luhet finalja, a mendon se ka qenë e suksesshme kjo eksperiencë për Shqipërinë? – Kampionati U-17 “Shqipëri 2025” është një nga eventet më të bukura që është organizuar deri më sot nga UEFA, këtë e them nga vlerësimet e ekspertëve që janë këtu me ne në Tiranë për organizimin e aktivitetit. Jam shumë i sigurt që do jetë akoma më i bukur deri në fund. Emocione akoma më shumë dhe prani njerëzish dhe spektatorësh akoma më shumë.

Cila ishte ekipi surprizë për ty nga skuadrat? – Nuk janë skuadra surprizë sepse janë vërtetë që kanë qenë më të mirat e Europës; Franca, Anglia, Gjermania. Kur kam parë ndeshjen Francë – Portugali në “Arenën Kombëtare” më është dukur tamam si një ndeshje e ekipeve të para, me një kualitet të jashtëzakonshëm, lojë shumë e bukur. Surpriza jemi vetëm ne, pjesëmarrja në këtë Kampionat Europian.

Were you disappointed with our National Team? – No, absolutely not. What I have asked and advised our U-17 team is to enjoy this championship, because this is a very beautiful event and no matter how much you benefit from this Championship, it will serve you and your generation in the future.

Future stars from these teams? – There are, I see stars in our team too, I am sure that from this U-17 team of Albania there will be players who will contribute to the first team. Even in other teams. There are almost consolidated players. Lennart Karl of Germany is part of Bayern Munich. Max Dowman is part of Arsenal. They are both number 10. They have started to be active with the first teams, but still the age is young and others can explode from them and can become stars of the future.

What impressions did Albania leave you with? – We have definitely talked. At any moment we are in contact with all the team staff, with all the officials, not with the footballers. They are really very satisfied with everything they have seen, with everything they have experienced. From the sports conditions where they train, the accommodation in the hotels and they have maximum ratings for everything they are experiencing at the European.

The mascot, will it accompany the National Team beyond the U-17 Euro? – The mascot is not a condition of the European Championship. It is something done by the Albanian Football Federation to respect the European Championship, but to have it continuously for the activities of the National Team. We will continue with the mascot. Undoubtedly, the Commercial and Public Relations Department of the Federation can change it, but always being in the same approach of the symbols of the Albanian National Team flag.

Who do you cheer for? – I only cheer for Albania, from the U-10 to the Veterans team.
