At the age of 19, Jacob Mellis was part of Chelsea and considered one of the most promising talents of the London Blues. But today, when he is 32 years old and retired from football, Mellis' story is completely different from what he thought. Mellis is currently homeless with no financial income and in a recent interview with Mail Sport, the 32-year-old revealed that alcohol destroyed his career. Mellis found that many people tried to get him back on track, but at the time he wouldn't listen or accept advice from anyone.

"I spend every day thinking about where I will go, I have a family but I don't want to become a burden for them. I want to make it on my own even though it is difficult. I don't want to think too much and try to get back up. I know family and friends want the best for me, but at the end of the day they have their own lives too. however, they still help me when they pay for my hotel or offer me a place to sleep. Sometimes I even stay in their houses.

But, I have nothing guaranteed. It is very difficult because I never thought that this would be my life. Alcohol has caused me many problems during my career, because when you are drunk you are no longer in control of anything. It affects training, the coaches are not happy. I remember when I once went drunk to Chelsea training, I was only 19 years old.

David Luiz didn't speak English well, but I understood immediately and he started to sign to me. He told me that I should stop drinking alcohol. Even Ashley Cole tried to get me back on track, but at the time I wasn't listening to anyone. I was conceited and arrogant.

I did myself a disservice and not Chelsea, as they are a great club and continue their journey despite players leaving. Now that I've retired, I regret it a lot. I wasn't aware of my talent, I didn't believe in myself," Mellis concluded.
