"Maybe they will kill me for these words," the former Russian captain came out against President Putin

Russia has been invading Ukraine for months, with the war, which has affected the entire continent and beyond. A war which has left great consequences in every aspect of life, but not every Russian citizen agrees with this.

One of them is Igor Denisov. A sports "star" in Russia, who from 2008 to 2016 was part of the Russian national football team, has come out against President Putin.

Denisov counts 54 matches with Russia and moreover also held the captain's armband in his period. Finally he spoke in harsh tones about the situation created, considering the war, a real catastrophe.

"I do not know, maybe I will be imprisoned or killed, but I will speak as I want and as the situation is. My perception of everything has changed drastically these months. I am shocked by what is happening, I have not slept.

I may not be a good connoisseur of history, I may be ignorant, but what is happening is wrong, I am totally against war. I can no longer bear it, I see innocent people dying, this must stop immediately. I'm sure there are many, many others in Russia who think like me but have chosen to remain silent, I no longer. Enough with that! ”Said Denisov.

Mesfushori Denisov njihet për karrierën e tij të famshme te Zenit St. Petersburg, klub me të cilin luajti 254 ndeshje dhe realizoi 23 gola, ndërsa në “perëndimin” e karrierës ai luajti edhe për Anzhi, Dynamo Moscow dhe Lokomotiv Moscow, skuadër me të cilën mbylli karrierën në sezonin 2018-2019.

Denisov now risks up to 15 years in prison under newly enacted legislation in Russia that prohibits citizens from denouncing the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
