Four years after Leo Messi left for PSG, Barcelona has completed the payments owed to the Argentine player. The final amount of over 5 million euros has now been transferred, definitively closing the economic relationship between the parties.

Messi, with an estimated net worth of between $700 million and $800 million, has reaped the bulk of his earnings from his long spell at Barcelona. He left in the summer of 2021 after more than a decade at the club, and is currently playing for Inter Miami and competing in the Club World Cup.

The payments to Messi were part of an agreement reached in 2020, when several players and coaches agreed to defer their salaries to help the club, which was in crisis. On June 30, Barcelona will also finalize the payment of the remaining 16 million euros to other former team players.

The agreements were part of a financial plan to cope with the economic difficulties of the time. For the Catalan club, these payments close a long chapter of financial obligations.
