Icardi closes in on Galatasaray, option for Serie A

Mauro Icardi and Galatasaray are further apart than ever. The Argentine striker has become an open issue in Istanbul, where local media are criticizing him for his stance.

After the cruciate ligament injury in November 2024 and the loss of his starting place to Victor Osimhen, his relationship with the club has deteriorated. His contract expires in June 2026, but a renewal seems unlikely and the options are to leave in January for a low fee or in the summer as a free agent.

His profile has attracted interest in Serie A, where he has been proposed to Milan, while Roma are evaluating other alternatives.

However, his €11m salary is a stumbling block for Italian clubs. Icardi could accept a pay cut to return to Italy. Despite the situation, he continues to score, with 7 goals in 14 Super League games.
