Insulting phrases against PSG cost the club, Evra is punished for homophobia

Patrice Evra was sentenced after some phrases uttered in a video on social networks in 2019. The video followed Manchester United's victory at the Parc des Princes against PSG. The sentence for the former defender of Juventus and Man United came after four years. His comment after that Champions League match was considered "inciting hatred and violence against a group of people because of their sexual orientation," according to the indictment.

But now the punishment has arrived, since, as communicated by the association's lawyer, "the homophobic statements of a personality like Patrice Evra incite hatred and violence against LGBT people. Especially in countries where homosexuality is criminalized, like in Senegal, where Patrice Evra comes from."

The defense of the former defender's team was of no use. The thesis was based on the fact that Evra wanted to attack PSG, not the gay community. Thus, the former football player, currently a commentator on various televisions, was fined 1,000 euros for homophobic expressions. Plus 1,500 euros in compensation for the civil parties. As well as a further payment of 1000 euros for each association to cover legal costs.
