Flick gives up on Lewandowski, chooses another striker

Barcelona started the season with a 3-0 victory over Mallorca, a match accompanied by some controversy over the refereeing, but which showed the good form of the Catalan team.

Lamine Yamal and Raphinha were again decisive. Robert Lewandowski missed out through injury but is expected to return for the second league match against Levante.

The Polish striker is aiming to open the scoring account and fight for the Golden Boot, where he is rivaled by Kylian Mbappé. However, he is no longer seen as an undisputed starter by coach Hansi Flick.

Ferran Torres' good performance, with 10 goals and 6 assists last season and one goal in the new season, has increased the competition in attack.

Flick highly values Torres and considers him on the same level as Lewandowski. This puts the Pole under pressure to respond immediately on the pitch.
