Deschamps reveals he has a plan to stop Messi

Coach Didier Deschamps has hinted that France have a plan to stop Lionel Messi when they face Argentina in the Qatar 2022 World Cup final on Sunday afternoon.

Few teams have been able to stop the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner during his remarkable career, with the 35-year-old having consistently shone for clubs, but also now for his country in Qatar.

Messi has scored five goals and three assists for the Albiceleste during this World Cup, but France are ready to take the "precautionary measures" necessary to stop possibly the greatest player of all time.

“We have already met him, remember at the 2018 World Cup? We will think about it. Inevitably, measures must be taken to limit its influence", Deschamps initially told TF1 .

"Four years ago, we expected him to be more on the right and he played centre-forward. Now, he is an organizer, he has more freedom, so it will be more difficult to mark him", concluded the coach of France.

France defeated Messi and Argentina four years ago in Russia in a 4-3 thriller in the round of 16.

Messi has already stated that Sunday's World Cup final will be his last game on the grandest international stage, as the big goal is to win the trophy.
