Deschamps announces his departure from France after the World Cup, two

Coach Didier Deschamps has officially confirmed his departure from the management of the French national team, after the end of the 2026 World Cup.

The 56-year-old's adventure on the bench will end after 14 years there, after taking over the team in 2012.

"I have been here since 2012 and I plan to stay until 2026, after the next World Cup. It will end there because at some point it has to close! In my mind it is very clear! I have done my time here with the same desire and passion to keep France at the highest level, but 2026 is a good time to stop," said the coach.

Deschamps has been a key figure for France throughout this period, having led the national team in a total of 165 matches, achieving remarkable success, including triumph at the 2018 World Cup and the 2021 Nations League. As former captain and then coach, he has made history by becoming one of only three people to win the World Cup as a player and coach.

With the departure of Deschamps on the horizon, the French Football Federation has begun to think about the future of the team. At the top of the list of candidates for the bench of France are two big names, Zinedine Zidane and Thierry Henry.

The absolute favorite to take charge of the French national team is Zidane, who has been without a team since his departure from Real Madrid in 2021, while he has openly expressed his desire to manage the national team. In the past, Zidane has turned down several offers from big clubs with the clear intention of becoming France coach.

The 52-year-old coach has an impressive career on the bench, winning the Champions League three times in a row with Real Madrid and building a reputation as a brilliant strategist. The French Federation seems convinced that Zidane is the right person.

Another name that is being discussed is that of Thierry Henry. The former striker has gone on to a career in coaching, including his role as assistant coach of Belgium and coach of France's Olympic team. His performance in this role has left a positive impression on the French Football Federation.

Although he has less experience compared to Zidane, Henry is seen as a fresh candidate with a lot of potential to bring a new approach to the national team.
