Agricultural census postponed to 2026/ Approval of the draft law still lacking

The Agricultural Census in the country has been postponed once again. Today in the Economy Committee, INSTAT Director Elsa Dhuli stated that the draft law of the country is nearing completion and the agricultural census will follow. Practically, this process will not be carried out this year but in 2026.

"In the framework of preparations for the Agricultural Census, we are in the process of approving the draft law. The strategy for organizing this Census, the activity plan and the budget are being reviewed. The Agricultural Census will provide information on specific modules, in all agricultural farms related to: irrigation, land management practices, machinery and equipment, horticulture, as well as data on the structure of agriculture, especially for small administrative units", said Elsa Dhuli, director of INSTAT.

The Director of the Institute of Statistics, Elsa Dhuli, also told the Committee on Economy and Finance what will be measured through the agricultural and livestock census.

"The methodological framework is being finalized in close cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, taking into account not only administrative resources, but also the results of the Population and Housing Census conducted in 2023. Establishing an information technology system for data collection, monitoring and analysis, in cooperation with the European Commission, FAO or the Institute", added Dhuli.

The agricultural census was scheduled to be conducted in 2022, but this process was postponed to 2024, but this objective was not achieved either. The new deadline is now 2026, if the draft law is approved this year. /CNA
