A group of citizens from Korça have undertaken a new initiative to improve public spaces in Korça. This initiative aims to become an ongoing movement, which will actively contribute to the city and the region in general.
The current project focuses on the linear planting of one of the busiest roads, which connects the upper ring road of the city with the tourist area of ??Morava Mountain. Until now, this road has been completely bare, exposed to atmospheric factors such as wind and sun, especially during the summer.
Therefore, the intervention aims to create a more protected and aesthetically pleasing environment. Ardit Konomi, initiator of this initiative, has told Cna TV more details regarding this special organization.

"This is a project initiated by a group of citizens that is always functioning. We are now trying to make it a movement that will be constantly engaged in such works that are a direct contribution to the city in the Korcë district in general. The project that we are implementing in this regard is the linear planting of the entire road that is also a promenade, very frequented by people, that connects the upper ring road of the city with the tourist area of ??Morava. The road has been completely bare, exposed to atmospheric factors, to wind, to sun in the summer period and we are convinced that this intervention will completely transform it."
Another important aspect of the project, according to Konomi, is the public lighting of this street with solar lights, which will ensure energy independence and avoid high energy consumption costs.

"At this stage, we are also considering public lighting for this street, with solar panel lights to be independent from the energy grid and to avoid costly consumption and costs."
Several types of indigenous crops have been selected for tree planting, such as linden, plane, birch, maple, acacia, as well as several species of conifers such as fir and pine. The selection has been made so that the trees offer a great variety in colors, aromas and shapes throughout the year, creating a pleasant landscape for passers-by and visitors.

"It is planned to use several types of crops that are indigenous to the country, starting with linden, plane, birch, maple, acacia, and a few conifers such as fir and pine. They have been selected in such a way that they are also variable, related to the way they leaf, how they grow, their colors and aromas, and at the same time create the landscape that we aim to achieve."
A very positive aspect of this initiative has been the extraordinary civic engagement, which has been shown in both financial contributions and physical labor for digging holes and planting seedlings. Several businesses have also joined this initiative, showing their support for such valuable projects for the community.

"There has been extraordinary civic engagement, this is the best news in this entire story. There has been engagement ranging from financial contributions to physical contributions to digging holes for the planting process and so on. Several businesses have joined this initiative, businesses that have been continuously engaged in such civic initiatives."
In the first phase of the project, around 400 trees will be planted, some of which are 4-5 year old seedlings, to ensure an immediate visual and flowering effect this spring. After that, the initiative is intended to continue on the rest of this axis, which connects the village of Mborje with the city of Korça and serves as an important ring road for citizens.

"In this first phase, there will be approximately 400 trees, there are 4-5 year old seedlings in some cases because we want to achieve that effect, both visual and flowering, this spring. Then we are thinking of continuing another part of this busy axis that connects the village of Mborje and the city of Korcë, which is used as a ring road by citizens."
This project is a testament to the power of collaboration between citizens and businesses to create a more beautiful, greener and more sustainable environment for all. During this weekend, contributors will continue planting trees, while journalist Elvi Fundo will also be part of this collaboration with his contribution in donating dozens of roots of different types. /CNA
