Pensioners in Korça are forced to work

A 78-year-old man lost his life at work yesterday morning in the city of Korça. An event that has shocked pensioners who, through the microphone of Cna, have shown that they are forced to work to provide some additional income even though they receive a pension.

It is the pensioners themselves who indicate that they have difficulties in their livelihoods due to low pensions that are not enough to provide for food, medicine, and daily needs.

But what forces retirees to work?

They say that the poor economic situation and extremely low pensions make them look for a job in private entities to earn a little more money. Some of them say that they worked for several more years after retirement, in private jobs, while they say that they encountered difficulties but that living conditions forced them to do such work.

"The bad situation, the economic side, forces them. They are not satisfied with the pension they receive. They cannot cope with life, its difficulties, and are forced to work a second or third job despite their illnesses. Yes, I worked. I sold tiles, bricks. It is difficult, for our age."

"We work because we get a small pension. It doesn't work out. I worked. I was a crane operator. It wasn't difficult as long as I worked because I was in good health. I worked for two years after retirement. It doesn't work out, whatever I say."

"They don't get a pension and they work. I get 200 thousand. I barely make ends meet. We ask for a raise, but who gives it to us? I have worked, but not in the state, in the private sector. I worked in construction for 5 years. Construction is difficult. I needed money, so I decided to work."

Pensioners are the poorest class in Albania and people who lack attention from the government in every aspect. Low pensions that do not meet the conditions of a normal lifestyle, which causes some of them to work in private jobs to earn additional income./ CNA
