"Located between the Ionian Sea and majestic mountains, Himara is a small town on the southern coast of Albania with spectacular beaches," writes Phoebe Cornish in the British daily "Daily Express".

Ksamil was hailed as a hidden gem of Europe last summer, but the resort village on the Albanian Riviera has gained quite a different reputation since then. Its once peaceful beaches, which visitors say are still "beautiful", have become crowded with tourists and only a few "secret" spots remain to be discovered in the area.

Although Ksamil remains a cheaper destination compared to nearby Greece, whose border is only 1 and a half hours away by car, Himara is the ideal alternative for quiet vacations without crowds of visitors.

Sharing travel tips for the Albanian destination on their blog Along Dusty Roads, Andrew and Emily said: When it comes to the Albanian coast, most tourists have to choose where to stay for a few days or longer. For us, Himara is one of the best options. We would much prefer a small seaside town, rather than a beach with a modern tourist development growing around it where life revolves around the summer season. While Himara's terrain may seem a little rough, the lack of fancy hotels and big resorts means there's so much unspoiled space to discover. We think Himara is an excellent choice of a base for tourists looking to enjoy and explore the Albanian Riviera, especially if you are taking a road trip with a rental car. Depending on the travel style, beach lovers can spend five nights here without visiting the same place twice.

Spille beach is the main one in Himare and is located near the city center. It is easily accessible and offers some of the best restaurants in town. Aquarium Bay is the most beautiful beach in Himare, according to the travel bloggers of "The Travel Folk".

"The beach is hidden and accessible only via Livadhi Beach or the center of Himara. Himara feels like a piece of Albanian paradise, with white sand and rocks that create a small cove", said the founder of "The Travel Folk", speaking about her visit to Albania./CNA
