October 21, National Screening Day/ Shkodra wears pink in the awareness march

Today, Shkodra was dressed in pink. Amidst solidarity and messages about life, the Pink March took place, an initiative that every October brings together women, girls, doctors and citizens for a common goal, raising awareness for breast cancer prevention.

At the end of the march, a symbolic sign was placed near one of the city's main traffic lights, where we all stop to wait for the green light. "A reminder for you: Your health is your priority all year round!" This was the message that will now accompany every passerby, so that they don't leave self-care for tomorrow.

" In the continuation of the activities we carry out during the month of October, today is the pink march. The city is dressed in the color of hope, strength and courage. Today we inaugurated the sign that will remain there throughout the year. Exactly in the place where everyone stops. Life is fast now, here we all stop to wait for the green light. Therefore, we must stop, reflect and take care of our health. Every year there are increasing cases but we also have cases of success and this makes us happy ", said the head of primary care, Megi Bilali.

 

The number of cases affected by cancer is increasing, but the chances of winning this battle are also numerous. Nurse Brixhilda Curri, talks about her already won challenge with breast cancer,

 

" In 2023 I am facing breast cancer. A battle that I speak freely about today after I won it. An ordeal of suffering and challenges but I have had my family close by. I call on all women and girls to do regular checkups. I discovered it from a pain I had. The surgery, chemotherapy, hair loss are all challenges in themselves. But I found strength in my children. Accepting the disease was difficult but thinking about the children and God I fought it ," said Brixhilda Curri.

 

October 21 marks National Breast Cancer Screening Day, this is awareness month, but the message for check-ups remains valid every day of the year. In Shkodra this year, 28 new cases of breast cancer have been discovered./CNA
