Electoral Reform/ Gonzato, message to the SP and the DP

The EU Ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato, stressed that credible electoral processes in line with international standards remain a key priority on Albania's path towards membership in the European Union.

In a meeting held the day before with the two co-chairs of the Special Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reform, Damian Gjiknuri and Oerd Bylykbashi, Gonzato discussed the progress of the committee's work and the steps expected to be taken in the coming weeks.

The Ambassador underlined the importance of a comprehensive electoral reform, which aims to increase transparency in the financing of political parties, guarantee the independence of the electoral administration, and prevent the misuse of state resources during campaigns.

He stressed that the implementation of OSCE/ODIHR recommendations is essential for strengthening public trust and protecting the integrity of future elections, describing electoral reform as a necessary step in the country's European integration process.
