Clash with the opposition/ Beqaj: They treated me like an object, I didn't
Former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj

The former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj, has reacted from prison for the clash with the opposition MPs at the meeting of the Investigative Commission for Concessions in Health.

Beqaj says that he entered the meeting hall without being called after he heard MP Ina Zhupa ask to accompany him to the cell.

He claims that Zhupa treated him like an object and the opposition MPs mocked him to the point of torture.

The former minister declares that with his intervention in the meeting he showed his revolt, but he did not threaten anyone.

Full reaction:

Since March 2024, when the establishment of the parliamentary investigative commission for concessions in health was approved, I have been faced with accusations, insults as a thief, a criminal, etc., by the initiative deputies. I waited in silence for the day of the hearing in the Commission. On Tuesday I appeared at 10 am and until 7.30 pm I was prevented from testifying. My lawyer is also prevented from speaking.

On Wednesday I showed up at 10:30 a.m. according to the notice and I waited until 01:40 a.m. on Thursday. Even in the meetings of these two days that are public, with voice and face, I have faced accusations, mockery and insults from Vokshi, Zhupa, Koreshi and Hoti.

At that hour of the night, standing near the meeting room waiting to testify and following the work of the committee, I heard deputy Zhupa that if I were the object, she demanded that since 24:00 on November 13, I should return to the cell after according to her, this was the permission given by the Directorate of Prisons.

According to the Code of Criminal Procedure, even for a detainee in case of interrogation or judicial process, the stay does not depend on the time of the permit, but the duration of the relevant session. I entered the meeting room just one step from the door and I openly expressed my revolt for the mockery to the point of torture that had been going on for more than 14 hours. I did not threaten or insult anyone.

Indignantly, I told deputy Zhupa that I have been waiting there since 10:30. Even if I am detained, I do not accept to be insulted and taken under foot. I reject this, oppose it and will continue to oppose it. In 8 months of investigations by the commission, all the witnesses have proven that the two concessions under investigation are success stories. I do not allow the opposition MPs to continue the political failure in violation of my dignity./ CNA
