The leader of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, commented today on the political situation in the country, as he focused on the latest developments following the dismissal of the arrested former mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj.

In a television appearance, Mediu stated that he has no appreciation for Veliaj, neither from a human nor a political point of view.

Mediu said that now that the race has opened, the opposition must face the elections, even though it considers them a farce.

 "Unfortunately, we are at a moment where one person decides. Personally, I have no appreciation for Erion Veliaj from a human point of view, but also from a political point of view. He should enjoy the elements that the constitution and the law guarantee him. Legal certainty is important. The processes are not carried out in the media, nor in the neighborhood councils, but as determined by the law and the government. This is a process in the interests of consolidating the powers of one person, such as Rama. I think that the opposition, despite all the conditions of an electoral farce, which was also ascertained by the OSCE/ODIHR, is forced to face the elections", - said Mediu./CNA
