The Constitutional Court dismissed the appeal to annul the changes to the Electoral Code, approved at the end of July by the Socialist Party and the Democratic Party.

The complaint was made by the Party "Movement for National Development", the organization "Albania Bëhet", the Party "Nisma Thurje", Lulzim Basha, Orjola Pampuri, Merita Bakiu, Gëzim Ademaj, the Party "New Democracy Alliance", the Party "Democratic Movement for Change" ” and the “National Conservative” Party.

They called the changes made incompatible with the Constitution, but the Constitutional Court, after a session that lasted 6 hours, rejected their first request.

According to the changes made on July 26, 2024, there will be 2 lists of candidates for deputies in the elections.

1/3 will be a closed list, i.e. candidates chosen by the party and 2/3 an open list, candidates who will be voted by the citizens./ CNA
