According to journalist Blendi Fevziu, the head of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, made four political mistakes.

The journalist stated in a television appearance that the first mistake was leaving the coalition with Sali Berisha in the 2013 elections.

The second mistake, Fevziu said, was leaving the coalition with Edi Rama in the 2017 elections, thinking that the prime minister would lose.

He said that the third mistake was not appearing on a single list in the 2021 elections with the opposition.

"I think that politically Meta's mistakes were two; First, leaving the coalition with Berisha in 2013 thinking that Berisha had lost most of his support and thinking that going this way would create the public impression that power goes where Meta goes. And especially in 2017, because leaving the coalition with Rama was a kind of political bet by Meta, thinking that by making a move Rama would lose, because no one thought that Rama would get 71 votes alone. Meta thought that with his votes he would play the role of determining the fate of the government, either with Basha or with Rama. This did not happen because Rama got 71 mandates himself, which was a strange moment.

After that, it was a mistake in my judgement, the lack of joining with the DP in the 2021 elections to have come out with a single list would have been more efficient. Although by then it was too late. On the other hand, it must be said that Meta was one of the politicians who considered it a mistake to leave the Parliament", he said.

However, Fezviu called Ilir Meta's acceptance of the post of president a fatal mistake.

"I think Meta made a big mistake beyond all of this, that he agreed to go President in 2017. Meta was a player in the game. The moment you become president, you are a player who has neither a jersey, nor tools, nor even a field to play on. Because the President of the man goes to the end of his career. So Meta made a fatal mistake. If Meta would have taken the presidency, would have ended his career as President and would have left, there would not have been another one", the journalist emphasized./ CNA
