The former Minister of the Interior, Sandër Lleshaj, has commented on the May 14 elections and the accusations that votes were stolen or bought.

In an interview, Lleshaj stated that gangs are often used in elections, while emphasizing that the May 14 elections were correct.

According to the former minister, votes cannot be stolen on Sunday at dinner.

"I believe that we had correct elections, according to the electoral system we have. It is laughable to hear the euphoric declarations of political leaders about winning the election on the morning of the election Sunday and it is to cry to hear their curses about the thefts on Monday. Elections cannot be stolen on Sunday at dinner. But on the other hand, if we want to be honest with ourselves, we have to admit that the temptation to be chosen is tremendous. It is very difficult to identify rational motives, which can justify the desperate efforts to become mayor in any province of Albania. It seems more than absurd the effort of many to become a "servant of the people" in a position with a very modest salary. The gangs do not participate in the elections, but the parties. Therefore, we must direct all our attention to the electoral system and the parties for any iniquity observed in the elections.
