"41% of Parliament are women and girls"/ Balla: The SP group has 34

The Chairman of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, spoke today about the importance of representing women and girls in politics, describing this as a historic achievement for Albania and a priority of the Socialist Party.

In his speech during the event "Women Parliamentarians for Gender Justice", Balla emphasized that the Albanian Parliament today has a level of gender representation that it has never had before.

According to Balla, the SP Parliamentary Group should be the voice of every girl and woman in Albania, especially those in rural areas and the most marginalized groups.

"In our parliamentary group we have 34 girls and women. When I was first elected as an MP, there were only 5 women in the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group. Today we have reached about 41% representation of women in Parliament, a great achievement for our country."

Balla also focused on the Socialist Party's commitment to guaranteeing gender equality at all levels.

“The Socialist Party is the only political force that has sanctioned in its statute gender equality 50% by 50% in all representative bodies. We have implemented this in municipal councils and in the lists of parliamentary elections.” Taking the example of the SP list in Tirana for the 2025 elections. Out of 12 candidates on the closed list, 8 were women and girls and only 4 were men. This is a clear signal that we take the issue of gender equality seriously.”

Balla called on SP deputies to be more engaged.

"The Socialist Party parliamentary group should be the voice of every girl and woman, in every corner of Albania. When a girl or a woman faces a problem, we should be the first to raise our voice. We can't wait to see it on Facebook."

Fortunately, we cover almost all the districts with female representatives, with the exception of Kukës. But we will solve it there too. We will build a wide network of cooperation with all the associations of girls and women throughout Albania, to unite our voices and be advocates for every woman who is a victim of gender-based or sexual violence. We need to win the battle against gender stereotypes and, above all, against hate speech.

"We will do this through the multiplication of awareness-raising activities, through public speeches, through television appearances," said Balla.

In his speech, Balla proposed that cooperation on women's issues be a bridge of communication between political forces.

"If we, men, cannot always find common ground, then let's create bridges of cooperation between girls and women of both parliamentary groups. Initially, this cooperation should focus on issues related to the protection of the rights of girls and women, the promotion of gender equality and the values ??they represent, and then it can be expanded to other areas of importance for the country," Balla said./CNA
