A Russian airstrike in the southern Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv hit a playground, killing at least three people, including a child.

This was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on July 19. Five people were also injured in the attack, Zelensky said via Telegram, calling on the world to help stop Russian "terror".

The mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkovych, confirmed that three people, including a child, were killed in the attack.

Zelensky released photos showing at least two dead bodies near the entrance to a building.

"This destruction of life must stop," Zelensky said. "New solutions are needed to support our defense. Russia must feel the power of the world."

The Ukrainian leader repeated calls for Kiev's Western backers to send more air defense systems to the country so that Ukraine can protect its skies from Russian airstrikes.

The port city of Mykolaiv and the surrounding region are often the target of Russian attacks. The regional governor, Vitaliy Kim, said another missile hit another area in the region on July 19.

Russia denies targeting civilians or civilian infrastructure, despite evidence to the contrary. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began in 2022, more than 10,000 people have been documented killed in Ukraine.

Earlier on July 19, Russia also attacked in the Kherson region, killing an elderly woman.

Also, in the Kharkiv region, as a result of the Russian attacks, at least seven people were injured, while in the Sumi region - near the border with Russia - a civilian was also injured, according to regional officials.

Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that its air defense has shot down 19 Ukrainian drones over Kursk and Belgorod regions, as well as in occupied Crimea./ REL
