Ukraine is attacked very close to the Romanian border

Romania's president, Klaus Iohannis, said on Tuesday that the new attacks in neighboring Ukraine took place "very, very close" to the Romanian border, as Russia carried out sustained attacks on Danube infrastructure in southern Ukraine.

"There were attacks today, the Minister of Defense told me, which were verified 800 meters from our border. Very, very close," Iohannis said during a joint conference with the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Xavier Bettel, on September 5.

Iohannis' announcement comes just a day after Ukraine said Russian drones fell and exploded on Romanian territory overnight on August 4.

"According to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, the 'Shaheds' [type of Iranian-made drones] fell and exploded on Romanian territory at night, during a massive Russian attack near the port of Izmail," Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko said. .

However, the Ministry of Defense of Romania denied these claims.

This ministry said that the drone attack on the infrastructure of the port of Izmail did not present a direct military threat to Romania, a NATO member state.

On Monday, Ukraine reported damage to the infrastructure of the port of Izmail, located on the Danube River. This river has become the main route from which Ukrainian grains are being exported, since in July Russia withdrew from the agreement on the export of grains from Black Sea ports./ REL
