The coach of the Spanish women's national team is fired, after the Rubiales

The Spanish Football Federation (FFS) on Tuesday sacked Joge Vildan, the coach of the World Cup-winning national women's team, days after he applauded a controversial speech by Spanish football boss Luis Rubiales about forcefully kissing soccer player Jenni Hermoso.

A new board formed after Rubiales' suspension by FIFA decided to terminate the contract of coach Vilda, who is considered a close ally of Rubiales, according to Reuters news agency.

FIFA, the home of world soccer, suspended Rubiales on August 26 after he forcefully kissed Hermoso on the lips during the trophy ceremony when Spain's women's national team won the World Cup on August 20.

On Friday, Vilda applauded football boss Rubiales after a speech during which he refused to resign and described the kiss as a "free, mutual and consensual" act.

Addressing Vilda, Rubiales called her the best coach in women's football and offered her a new four-year contract with an annual salary of 500,000 euros.

But a day later, Vilda changed her stance and criticized Rubiales in a press release, although she did not call for his resignation.

Hermoso, meanwhile, said days after the incident that he felt as if he had been attacked by the Spanish football boss.

"I felt violated and the victim of an attack, an impulsive and masculine action; an inappropriate action with no kind of agreement on my part. Simply, I did not respect them", said Hermoso in a statement on social networks on August 25.

The footballers' union, Futpro, Hermoso and 80 other footballers have said that they will no longer agree to play for Spain "if the federation continues to have the same leader".

Rubiales has remained steadfast in his refusal to resign from his post "because of a slightly consensual kiss".

Rubiales is also being investigated by the Sports Court of Spain./ REL
