Russia says Ukraine attacked oil processing complex

Two Ukrainian drones have attacked the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat oil and petrochemical processing complex - one of the largest in Russia - located in Russia's Bashkortostan region, the regional head, Radiy Khabirov, said.

Ukraine has intensified drone attacks on Russian oil and gas infrastructure since August, as anger in Kiev has grown over peace talks over the war Russia launched against Ukraine in 2022.

The Kremlin believes that peace efforts have been suspended.

"We are assessing the damage. We are currently extinguishing the fire and all emergency teams have arrived on the scene," Khabirov said via Telegram on September 18.

He said there were no casualties from this attack and added that the complex's security opened fire on the drones.

The same complex was attacked by Ukraine in May 2024. Meanwhile, last week Ukrainian drones attacked an oil refinery in Ufa, the regional capital of Bashkortostan, located about 1,400 kilometers from the Ukrainian border./ REL
