The number of victims in Florida as a result of the hurricane increases

Authorities in Florida have launched an extensive search-and-rescue process following the extensive damage caused by Hurricane Ian.

At least 10 people have died in this American state, but officials fear that the number of victims could rise significantly.

The US president, Joe Biden, has warned that the hurricane - which is now in the first category - could be the most destructive in the history of Florida, "with a significant number of lives lost".

Ian is currently moving to North and South Carolina.

As a result of the powerful storm, more than 2.2 million people continue to be without power in Florida.

The floods are so severe that some residents have been trapped in their homes.

The National Guard is going door to door to rescue trapped people.

The state's governor, Ron DeSantis, said Thursday evening that the damage in some regions is "almost indescribable."
