The Government of Kosovo approves the draft law for the budget of 2024

On Tuesday, the Kosovo government approved the draft law for the 2024 budget in the amount of 3.3 billion euros, a small increase compared to last year's budget.

The draft law on the budget will be sent to the Assembly of Kosovo for review and approval.

Speaking during a Government meeting on next year's budget, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said that for the public sector, the salary coefficient for 2024 will be 110 euros.

"For the year 2024, the budget of the Republic of Kosovo will be 3 billion and 314 million euros", Kurti said.

The Kosovo state budget for 2023 was 3.2 billion euros.

The overall budget for salaries in the public sector is expected to be 805 million euros, Kurti said, adding that this is "30 percent higher than five years ago."

"With this budget, we are giving special care and importance to security protection, therefore for 2024 we have increased the number of policemen by another 500, and the number of soldiers by another 600", said Kurti.

He announced that the budget for the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the first time will exceed the amount of 216 million euros, and for the Ministry of Defense it will be over 153 million euros "or about 370 million euros for the sector, which is about 22% more than the year 2023 we are currently in.”

Kurti said that his Government's projection for tax revenues for 2024 is 2 billion and 705 million euros.

"When compared to the last year before the pandemic, which is 2019, it seems that we are collecting 1 billion and 43 million euros more, or about 63% more", he added.

From this budget, according to Kurti, Education will be supported with 370 million euros, while Health with 340 million euros./ REL
