Massacre in the US / Two teenagers kill 3 people, then commit suicide

A shooting has rocked the city of San Diego, California, where five people have been killed near the Islamic Center of San Diego, the largest mosque in the region. Local authorities announced that two armed teenagers, ages 17 and 18, opened fire on people outside the religious complex, killing three men, including a security guard who helped prevent an even greater tragedy. Local police chief Scott Wahl confirmed that after the attack the two perpetrators were found dead inside a vehicle, with self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

The serious incident began at around 11:40 am local time, prompting dozens of federal officers and agents to immediately surround the area. Initial investigations have focused on a possible hate crime, fueled by extremist rhetoric, although there had been no specific threats to this institution. A shocking detail uncovered by investigators is related to a phone call from the mother of one of the attackers, who two hours before the incident had informed the police that her son had left home in a serious psychological state, wearing camouflage clothing, accompanied by a friend and armed with three firearms. The police launched searches in several locations, but were unable to stop them before they reached the mosque.

At the time of the shooting, there were also children attending classes at the Islamic school "Bright Horizon Academy" inside the complex, but fortunately none of them were injured. This attack has significantly increased fear and uncertainty in religious communities in the United States, coming at a time of high international tensions where hate-motivated incidents are continuing to increase.
