Germany, Italy and Belgium propose ambitious EU reform package

The governments of Germany, Italy and Belgium are pushing an ambitious package of reforms within the European Union, aiming to improve competitiveness, attract investment and the internal functioning of the union.

In the political documents being prepared and discussed among European leaders, the three countries emphasize that the EU risks losing ground to the United States and China in economic and innovative terms if it does not adopt concrete measures to simplify regulations, strengthen the internal market, and renew conditions for businesses and investments.

According to these proposals, bureaucracy and complex procedures that hinder investment and business in the EU should be reduced; the adoption of new regulations should be accelerated and old ones that hinder growth should be removed; the internal market should be strengthened in sectors such as services, energy, capital and technology; and economic integration and common European competitiveness should be increased.

The proposal is expected to be discussed more widely at high-level meetings of EU leaders in the coming months, with the aim of member states agreeing on concrete measures to face global economic and technological challenges./CNA
