Russian attacks kill 13 civilians in Ukraine, Zelensky asks for more help from

The Russian military carried out drone, missile and artillery attacks in Ukraine, killing at least 16 civilians and wounding nearly 100 others, officials said Tuesday.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has sought assurances of further military assistance from the West for his country's efforts to repel the Russian invasion.

Russian forces have relentlessly bombed civilian areas in Ukraine throughout the war, now in its fourth year. More than 12,000 Ukrainian civilians have been killed, according to the United Nations.

Ukraine has also carried out long-range drone attacks on Russia, hitting populated areas.

Zelensky is expected to meet on Tuesday with Western leaders attending a NATO summit in The Hague, Netherlands.

He is committed to providing further military support for Ukraine's war against Russia, after recent direct peace talks failed to produce progress toward an agreement.

Key military supplies to Ukraine, inherited from the Biden administration, are expected to run out within months, according to analysts, and it is unclear whether President Donald Trump will be willing to provide further assistance.

A Russian ballistic missile attack on the city of Dnipro hit several civilian areas around noon on Tuesday, killing seven people and wounding 70 others, according to local officials.

In the nearby city of Samar, an attack killed two people and injured nine others, the head of the Dnipro regional administration, Serhii Lysak, wrote on Telegram.

The barrage of attacks damaged 19 schools, 10 kindergartens, a vocational school, a music school and a social welfare office, as well as eight medical facilities, according to Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov.

Russia also bombed residential neighborhoods and critical infrastructure in the southern Kherson region of Ukraine, killing four civilians and wounding at least 11 others, according to Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the regional military administration.

In the Sumy region, a Russian drone strike late Monday killed three civilians, including a five-year-old boy, and wounded six others, local authorities said.

Among the injured were two 17-year-old girls and a 12-year-old boy, according to officials.

Meanwhile, Russian air defense forces shot down 20 Ukrainian drones overnight, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday morning.

It said 14 crashed over the Kursk region, which borders Ukraine, while two others were flying over the Moscow region./ REL
