Erdogan believes that the deal on Ukrainian wheat will continue

Turkey's president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said he believes the agreement that allows Ukraine to export wheat through the Black Sea will remain in place.

The term of this agreement is currently set to expire on Saturday.

"I am of the opinion that it will continue. There is no problem here," Erdogan said at a press conference in Bali, Indonesia, where the G20 summit of the most industrialized countries is being held.

Ukraine is one of the world's leading producers of wheat.

The war that Russia launched against it at the end of February blocked 20 million tons of grain in its ports.

However, the United Nations and Turkey managed to broker an agreement for their export in July.

Erdogan said he will speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin once he returns to Turkey.

"...because the path to peace goes through dialogue", he said.

Another agreement, brokered by the UN and Turkey and also signed in July, enables food exports from Russia, despite the sanctions imposed by the West after the invasion of Ukraine./REL
