Rare in Berlin/ Cocaine "invades" supermarkets in banana crates

A large amount of cocaine was found in several supermarkets in Berlin and Brandenburg, as reported by the German newspaper Bild.

Supermarket workers in Germany who sell products at low prices have been shocked by the discovery of cocaine in various goods.

The number of Berlin supermarkets where the drug was found is currently unknown. In Brandenburg, however, police allegedly found drugs in four supermarkets.

As the German newspaper reports, the authorities estimate that the amount of cocaine they discovered in the goods ranges from 20 to 100 kilograms per supermarket.

Police are still investigating the cargo, and therefore the total amount of cocaine expected to be seized remains unclear.

It is known that the employees found the drugs this morning, while they were sorting the goods. The mobilization of the police was immediate. Heavily armed police were stationed inside and outside the buildings where the drugs were found.

The spokeswoman for the police headquarters in Brandenburg, Beate Kardels, confirmed that the drugs were found in the banana crates, among the fruit.

However, the amount of drugs found in the supermarket seems to surprise even the experts, as "Bild" comments.

"Due to the volume of packages where the cocaine was found, the Joint Narcotics Investigation Team of the Brandenburg Criminal Police Office is coordinating further investigations in close cooperation with the Berlin authorities," said the spokeswoman for the Brandenburg police headquarters. / CNA
